The Fear Factor - part 2 of 2 (Exodus 20:18-21 Kjv) “And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.” Many people act just like this today, as they say within their hearts, “I will just let the preacher seek God.” Or “I am afraid of what God might say to me.” Excuses for not seeking God come from fears hidden inside the heart. Some fears of this type come from disobedience to the Word of God, and others from holding grudges against God for things that have happened. No matter how it is manifested, we must be set free from fear.. The truth will make us free if we are willing to use it to fight our fears. (Ephesians 2:14 Kjv) “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;” Jesus conquered all fear when He died on the cross. He trusted the Father even in the darkest of circumstances as He said, “Into Thy hands I commit my Spirit.” It is with that same attitude that we should approach the Lord. We are instructed in Hebrews 4:16 to come boldly to the throne of grace to receive what we have need of. God wants us to come to Him. Know this: God loves us, and understands what we need even before we ask, but we don’t ask rightly if we don’t let him deal with our motivations and bring correction to our desires. For example: We may ask the Lord to help us escape a situation, when the whole time He would desire that we overcome it. Let us acknowledge how we feel before Him, and then ask Him what He would have us do. That is casting your cares upon Him, instead of making outlandish demands that demonstrate our lack of understanding, trust, and love. (1 John 4:18 Kjv) “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” We may not be fearless, but we can overcome fears that hinder us from fulfilling the will of God, by setting our hearts to love instead of fear. God desires and deserves every part of our hearts, and the more of our hearts that we give Him, the less fear will be able to torment and control us. There are new freedoms to be found for those who will face their fears and dare to love until the breakthrough comes. -Kurt Thurston August Newsletter 2002 | Be Comforted | Fear Factor part 2 of 2 Pastor's Journal August 2001 | Keeping Honor part 2 of 2 | Jaundiced Eye part 2 of 3
