That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving... Psalm 26:7 Vol. 11, No. 7 July 2002 Dear Family of God: Who can abide the day of the Lord’s coming? This word “abide” in the Hebrew is “kool.” It means, “to bear it, hold on, be sustained.” Joel is prophesying about the end days when the Lord will come in all His glory and splendor, yet he says, “Who can abide?” Jesus tells us in John 15 we must “abide” in Him, or the Father will cast us out. This word in the Greek is “meno.” It means, “to stay, remain and stand.” It is a command of the Lord. No one in his or her wildest dreams could have explained the dilemma the church is in today. We see a distress and fear and lack of concern for the Body of Christ on one hand and we see great glory and humbleness of God’s people on the other hand. What a predicament! Yet we are told if we just abide in the Vine, Jesus Christ, and if we allow His Word to bear fruit in our lives; we are going to have all that we ask in Him. This predicament is going to be glorious and holy soon. The transformation is going to be complete and Jesus is going to be made Lord of all. It is extremely painful for the Body of Christ to endure what is happening. But remember the Words of the Lord: “Everyone who is to bear fruit must be pruned over and over again to bring forth greater fruit.” That fruit is the Life of Christ. Not an infant Christ, but a man of full stature – mature and holy. Yes, we wonder who can “abide”? But we will continue to abide because the Word of the Lord will come to pass in the fullness of time, with great splendor. In Christ,
