Pursuing God

Psa. 84:2 (KJV) “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”

Passion for God is what the Lord longs for. Jesus desires more than anything else for our lives that we will pursue to know God as Father, King, and Master. Many are learning that pursuing God is all they need to live a peaceful and content life. When we pursue God, He is all we need. Riches won’t make us happy. More free time will not keep us content. But a deeper relationship with God is what He desires and what is best for us. This type of relationship we can have. We can talk to Him at any time. He will listen to us and even speak His mind to us if we will listen. Knowing that He knows best for us is more than enough to give us peace. Can we trust ourselves? Will we process what our spirit hears or simply obey? For life to be full of joy and glory, we must obey.

God will make us look good when we pursue Him. He wants the very best for us. When He knows that He is first in our life, he will cause things to line up for us. Perhaps we have been inquiring of the Lord about something very important. He will see us through if we are obedient to what he says and if we do not analyze what He says. The first step to hearing the voice of the Lord is to simply acknowledge that He is speaking, and then the relationship will be built. Before we know it, we will be in dialogue throughout the day with great peace. One thing is for sure, peace does not come from the carnal mind. Only when we are submissive to the Spirit will peace rule.

The Word says that “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom…” (Prov. 9:10 KJV) When we fear the Lord, keeping Him first in all that we do, we will be blessed. The Lord loves those that fear Him. We will have a greater understanding of life when we fear Him. When we pursue God, other things fall in line. God will use us and then give us the credit. Then in humility we can return the credit to Him. Too many times we do things in fear of others. Psa. 27:1 (KJV) says, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” We end up in bondage and even compromise because we are worried about what other will think. People who have problems with authority do things because of their superiors, not because of what God is telling them. We find this in the immature, those who want approval from man instead of God.

As we pursue God, Christ asks one thing of us. He asks that we feed His sheep. Whatsoever we receive, we should give to someone else. He puts much into us, He expects us to give something out to others. If we can only get our minds off of ourselves and onto what He wants, we will find ourselves more joyful, peaceful and in closer relationship with Him.

Also, we should pursue the very character of God when we pursue Him. His character is love. When we get to know His character, we will not want to receive all of the time. We will want to give. He gave His son for us; we will want to give life to someone else. Christ did not make us to think of ourselves. He created us with others in mind. Adam was made for God. God was there for Adam. Eve was made for Adam’s pleasure and Adam was to take care of Eve. Children came into the world for their parents’ enjoyment and parents are to be there for their children. The opposite of love is self-centeredness. We find many times that when we feel unloved, we simply have our minds on ourselves too much. If we can begin to give, we will find agape love.

Pursuing God is the greatest adventure man can ask for. Whenever it seems that we have found Him, we find there is more to know. Who can know everything there is to know about God? Our finite minds cannot know His infinite mind. But through the journey, we can have peace, joy and wisdom.
