Roots of Revival - part 2 (Hosea 6:1-3 KJV) “Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.” God has given us freedom to choose what we seek in life, but He wants us to choose Him. We need to check our hunger levels. Are we hungrier for prayer, or for food? Do we feel like reading the Bible, or would we rather be entertained by the television for long periods of time? We need to recognize, and deal with, any preoccupation that hinders His will for our lives. As the prophet Hosea proclaimed, “Come, and let us return to the Lord…” (1Cor. 6: 12-13 KJV) “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them.” The Lord desires deeper communion with His people. He wants to impart attributes of His nature into a people that are willing to count the cost. We need what God wants to do, and not just for ourselves but also so that we can take it to the lost. We will dry up and be swept away from our purpose if we allow ourselves to be seduced into mediocrity. We must stay alert and on track because sometimes the enemy comes in like a flood, but the majority of the attacks are subtle. Through many of his wiles, the enemy slowly works to deteriorate our spiritual life and strength so that he can turn us away from God. Little compromises lead to big time seductions that can leave even the most well-meaning Christians in a spiritual stupor. (2Chr. 7:14 KJV) “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” How do we return to God? Actively seek repentance. Put away foreign gods. Commit ourselves and our time to God. Fight to break our fleshly habits. Determine to overcome the demonic influences by the blood of the Lamb. Break off any and all holds to the past, and seek and praise our God with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength! Then not only will our land be healed but there will also be revival. Revival came and music resulted when Moses and the people obeyed God at the Red Sea. Revival came because of the exhortation that Samuel gave the people, to put away their idols and worship God Almighty. Revival came when King David brought the Ark of the Covenant back to Israel. Revival came when King Solomon dedicated the temple of the Lord. Revival came at different times when King Asa, King Jehoshaphat, King Hezekiah, and even King Manasseh proclaimed action against idols and their worship; and revival is ours to have today as well! (Hosea 10:12 KJV) “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” -Kurt Thurston April Newsletter 2002 | Latter Rain Outpouring part 1 of 2 | Roots of Revival part 2 Pastor's Journal April 2001 | Double Minded | Signs and Tokens part 1 of 3 |
