Talking To God Perhaps the greatest privilege given to mankind is to have the ability to talk to his Creator. Jesus Christ has broken down every barrier that has been placed, or could ever be placed, between our God and us. But we live in a time when lies and great deceptions are flowing like a raging current, so keeping the line open to God is the only way we will remain barrier free and solid in the truth. (2 Cor. 10:4-6 KJV) “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.” How can we know the difference between our imaginations and the knowledge of God? God has given us His eternal word in the Holy Bible. We must know and live by what He says, and stop trying to live by what we think naturally. How can we know what obedience to Christ is? Christ has given us new life in our born-again spirits, and by His Holy Spirit He leads us into obedience with His words of truth. In the Bible the absolute truth is written in plain English, so let’s get in there and get to know the truth, because when we talk to God, we need to know what He has said if we are to understand what He is saying. Jesus is absolutely Lord and His word is absolute truth! They are both eternally unchangeable and supreme. What we do with what He has given to us is crucial, because too many people have already suffered shipwrecked faith by listening to the opinions and watered down interpretations conjured up by the imaginations of those who are not living in the word nor living subject to it. (Col. 3:2-3 KJV) “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” Now is the time to stop ignoring the Lord and / or diminishing the meaning of His word. Holy fear, along with a total acknowledgement of the relevance of His word for today, will keep us seeking and finding God every day. Have we believed the lie that says I don’t have time to read and pray? Why is it then that people always seem to have enough time to complain to each other about their situations, but they don’t have enough time to seek God? The answer is clearly that we must take up our cross and follow hard after the Lord because “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30 KJV). (Pro. 3:5-6 KJV) “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Deception says that we can exist in any fashion that comes as natural to us, but the truth is that we must apply what God is saying in the form of directing our lives. If we will trust the Lord and follow His paths closely, we will escape the waves of deception that would sweep us away from His will. It takes humility on our parts to hear and obey the Lord but always remember, we can never out-give Him. (1 Pet. 5:6-7 KJV) “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” The Lord cares about everything that happens in the lives of His children. There is nothing too small, and nothing too big, to trust into His care. Though we live in a world of constant change and uncertainty, we shall maintain our purpose and peace by talking to God, and keeping His word. -Kurt Thurston
