A Harlot’s Torment - part 2 Rom 8:1 (KJV) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Jesus appointed His people to walk in the Spirit. Does that mean we are to assume because we have spoken one prayer and “received” Him as Lord, we automatically are walking in the Spirit? Does a baby walk from out of the womb? John 3:3 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. We must be born again just to see the kingdom. That says nothing for functioning and moving in that kingdom. That was just to see the kingdom. Babies don’t walk in the natural or in the spirit. Babies are opened up to a whole new world naturally and spiritually. So as the Apostle Paul is writing this, he has in mind people in Christ walking in maturity, making a choice between that which is spiritual and that which is carnal. It is in our choices we manifest who owns each area of our lives. Babies don’t make choices. We need to come into understanding that when God gives us over to the fruit of our choices we are now experiencing the walk of a child being brought into perfection or maturity. The greatest “prophet” we many times encounter (and don’t listen to) is the fruit birthed out of our choices. We know how to judge the fruit in someone else’s life, but we are clueless when confronted by circumstances brought on by immaturity in our lives. 1 Cor 6:15- 20 (KJV) Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. If we have been given much, much will be required of us. What do we require out of infants who feed off of milk? We really only treat babies as vessels to pour into, yet the day comes when we develop an expectation for that which has been poured or given to them. When God begins to try the depth of what He has poured into us we then begin to experience the romance of the cross of Christ. We are no longer a coddled child, but rather, a chased lover who is being asked to give up her other affairs. We are found in a place we encounter the lover of our soul. The devoted temple is such only because the heart is guarded from all intruders who want to defile the Lover of our Lord. Whether you are male or female you are His treasure. When we are consumed with the passion of Calvary we will be thrown into a whirlwind of condemnation/ conviction. A great love has invaded the secret places of our heart. Our harlotry is exposed and challenged; we are frustrated and confused by the affairs we have entertained for so long. We are desperate to follow Him, but bound by a carnal nature that has entangled our will. We have allowed the enemy to meet our needs through fleshly appetite, yet we have found an appetite that hungers for more than shallow attention. It is an appetite that hungers to encounter our King and bear the fruit of His kingdom. The enemy is no lover; he only lusts after the Bride of the Lamb. He will do all he can to keep our attention off of the God who conceived us in His heart and chased us with His Word. -John Frost August Newsletter 2003 | Pursuing Agape | Keeping This Generation | Potential Sons Pastor's Journal August 2002 | A Harlot's Torment part 2 | Meekness and Mercy part 2 of 3 |
