That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving... Psalm 26:7 Vol. 12, No. 12 December 2003 Dear Family of God: In a world that is slipping on a daily basis we sometimes don’t know where to turn or if we are to turn because in every direction people are consumed with fear and fretting. People don’t want to be bothered so they hide in their homes, coming out only to get what they need. But then there are a people who welcome the opportunity to show someone kindness or generosity or a helping hand. You can find them in time of need because God makes sure they are available. Sometimes I don’t want to be bothered, but when I am out I look for those opportunities, even if it is just to say a kind word or to see someone smile and feel important. Kindness begins in the house of God. 2 Peter 1:7 tells us to add to our godliness, brotherly affection or kindness. We will never be kind to others if we can’t be kind to the family of God. If you are one who is kind, it means to be useful, to have good character, or to be merciful. I love to see people greet one another in the church with kindness. But there is always someone who does not want to give or cannot give kindness or receive kindness from others. This breaks my heart. These are the people that need mercy. You will need to hear from God on how to release this mercy so not to impose yourself on them. It is God’s mercy that every individual needs in this time of great fretting and fear. Even the most put-out person eventually receives some kindness if we don’t stop giving. During these holiday seasons may we first and foremost show kindness and offer some useful way of reaching out to others. I don’t personally think people need more “things.” They just need to know that kindness has not been eradicated from this generation. Christmas does not have to cost a lot. Believe me when I say people just need to receive kindness and brotherly love. They are hurting! In Christ,
