Bitter/Sweet Waters - part 2

2Ki 2:19-21  “And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city [is] pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water [is] naught, and the ground barren.  (20)  And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought [it] to him.  (21)  And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren [land].”

Word meanings:

naught = inadequate, nasty, all kinds of problems

new cruse = renewed vial of salt (salt-shaker)

spring = source of the water

barren = barrenness (miscarriage)

This is the story of the healing of the curse of Jericho

2Ki 2:19  “And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city [is] pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water [is] naught, and the ground barren. “

(Word meaning)  situation = yâshab yaw-shab'- dwell

Psalm 133:1 (KJV) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

This means each one in his own place, fulfilling his own calling and anointing.  It’s not just hanging around.  It is everyone fully functioning and serving where God calls. THAT IS WHAT UNITY IS.

“As my lord seeth” Lord is “Adoni” (not often used for a human being). The true interpretation = “as Adoni sees.” God knows the quality of His church, God knows the character of His place, that there is anointing and there is power to be released – you have been taught and trained in the truth,; you have joined in unity to serve, to please the Lord – and He has seen it!  But right now there is bad water, and death is all around.  People are dying. Barrenness is with us in our attitudes, but God sees beyond that and He knows there is a good place.  And it looks pleasant to Him!   God knows we are ready to explode with ministry to others – just waiting for something great to happen.  But the waters are bad and the ground is barren.  We have had the wind knocked out of us and things are a struggle for us – we have become restless and troubled and questioning.

(Word Meaning) “ground barren” = ´erets eh'-rets  & shâkôl shaw-kole'

It doesn’t mean “land.”  It means “It causes barrenness.”  The very attitude hinders the flow of the Spirit in homes, in lives, in prayers.

They recognized the problem and they came to spiritual authority:

2Ki 2:20  “And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought [it] to him.”

“Bring me a new cruse…”  The leader can’t create it.  It has to come from the people.  I have tried all I know to do.  It is up to you!   “New” means “renewed.”  God wants a renewed vessel.  There is a new anointing breaking forth upon us.  But for it to grow, there must be a cleansing.  And we can receive it today – if we want it.

(Word meaning) “cruse” = a salt shaker – “put salt in it”

What is salt?  A mineral that God has profusely shaken over all of nature for one major purpose - salt neutralizes acid.  This is one of the basic minerals of nature.  That is why it is healthy to use salt.  Salt is easily pulverized and dissolved.  How many of you are easily pulverized to dissolve?  (Not many!)  God wants you to be salt.

What does salt do?  It sweetens that which is bitter.  How many want God to sweeten your sour/bitter existence?  God is saying, “Bring me a renewed church and fill it with salt.”  Salt also melts.  How many of you want to be melted, and molded afresh?  Salt also disinfects.  It medicates and brings healing.  Is there anyone who needs to get rid of some lingering infection?

This is what we know about Jericho today.  Because of this miracle it is the garden spot of Palestine.  Everything grows there – twice its normal size.  Before this time everything was dead, polluted, and barren.  But now it is the best there is in that part of the country.

Salt also preserves – it preserves health and wholeness.  Salt flavors – I don’t like bland food.

We don’t have to suffer from a loss of sodium.  Do you know what a lack of sodium in blood causes?  COMA!  We need salt, we need flavor.  When we ignore what the Spirit of God is wanting, the waters become polluted.  But today God wants to apply the salt – so the waters of life will flow freely once again.

2Ki 2:21  “And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren [land].”

Only the Lord can bring the healing.    But here we see Elisha doing his part – he cast the salt forth (meaning) “he sowed it, planted it.”  The spirit that flows up out you can be a source of sweetness or bitterness.  What are you sowing today? Let the Lord God bring healing. Cast your bread upon the waters and in not many days it will return. Healing is before us.

DECLARATION: “I have healed these waters; there shall not be here any more death or barrenness.  This place will only produce fruit and life and joy and power and anointing and solution.”
