The Passion Within - part 1 of 2

What is it you love most? Do you set aside the things of God? What is it you desire most? Is it your family, job, (teens) girls and guys, (children) Mom and Dad? What would you do to protect the things you love? What would you do to get what you want? What if you desired love and attention?

Teens say they know when they are loved by knowing Dad or Mom wants to spend time with them. What about God? He needs love and attention. If we love Him, we'll want to spend time with Him.

We must deny ourselves from the lusts of this world but satisfy the passion within our spirit.   2 Pet 1:1-9

2 Pet 1:1-9 (KJV)  "Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: {2} Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, {3} According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: {4} Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. {5} And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; {6} And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; {7} And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. {8} For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. {9} But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins."

vs. 4: escaped lust, partakers of divine nature. vs. 5: giving all diligence; passion, effort, desire vs. 9: old sins = lusts

Lust means: desire, concupiscence (sexual), crave. Desire means: hunger, thirst, itch, appetite, yearn. Crave means: wish, want, dream for, pant. Passion means: amorousness, fervor, idolization, vocation, outburst

1.          Amorousness means: love, fire, rapture, intoxication

2.          Fervor means: vigor, intensity, fire, zeal, fierce, enthusiasm

3.          Idolization means: worship, adoration, veneration, obsession

4.          Vocation means: calling, life's work, mission, pursuit

5.          Outburst means: explosion, convulsion, spasm

Gal 5:16-17 (KJV)  "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. {17} For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would."

When we have a true passion for something, we attain it. A child that has a tantrum is expressing passion about something. Husbands and wives find something new and the desire to obtain it rules at any cost.  Israelites lived for commandments, laws and rules for right relationship with God. David killed a lion and bear having passion for sheep. 1 Sam 17:33-37 (KJV) Jesus wanted to do more miracles but couldn't because of unbelief Mat 13:58 (KJV)

There is a war within. Our emotions must be dealt with.

Not about having self-control when the spirit of the Lord falls upon you

About having self-control when the desires of the world fall upon you

Not about desiring a deeper walk with God

About desiring a deeper walk in the flesh

Not about asking God for what you need

About asking God for what you want

Not about having friendship with the Lord

About having friendship with the World

Not about what the scripture says

             About what you say

Not about Humility

             About pride

James 4:1-10 (KJV)  "From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? {2} Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. {3} Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. {4} Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. {5} Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? {6} But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. {7} Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. {8} Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. {9} Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. {10} Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up."
