Stop, Look, and Listen Will this New Year truly be a “New Year,” or will it just be another year? Will 2004 be different, or will it just be a continuation of the same old things? In general it appears that many of the saints are almost worn out. If it were not for the fact that the Lord is with His people, they would have already fainted. Though tired, many have learned how to do what it takes to stay in this good fight of faith without growing weary. Many have learned to Stop, Look, and Listen! “To Stop” means to pause or to wait. Isa 40:31 (KJV) “{31} But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.” If strength is to be renewed, the reader of the scripture is going to have to put the context into practice. Many who read the scriptures believe them to be true, but it is those who put into action the words who find them to be true. One may start by asking the Lord, “How do you want me to change the way that I wait upon You?” Or, “Lord, please show me what I am putting before You that is causing me to leave You behind.” And then begin to seek Him in a greater measure. ‘To Look’, means to inquire until an understanding has been gained. Heb 12:2 (KJV) “{2} Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith…” Whatever the question or request that we make to the Lord may be, it will produce insight, wisdom, and understanding when the answer comes, if sought with diligence while waiting on Him. “To Listen” is not equal to just hearing. When we listen we don’t just hear what is being said, but rather we apply what we are hearing to our lives even as it is being said. That requires a willingness to be obedient, even to the extent of changing our ways. Isa 55:8 (KJV) “{8} For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” But our thinking is exactly what He is changing in us. He wants us to have the mind of the Spirit, and to come to know Him more and more. If we are to be equipped to walk out the plans that the Lord has for our lives, we must seek to do it His way. If we are willing to do it His way, we will first have to stop, look, and listen. -Kurt Thurston January Newsletter 2004 | To Be Humbled part 1 | Stop, Look, and Listen | Test of Perseverance part 1 of 2 Pastor's Journal January 2003 | Intercessors Invitation | Be Not Fruitless or Barren part 1 of 3 |
