True Treasure

The celebration of Christmas is the most wonderful celebration because it is the proclamation of the fact that God the Father gave us His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Savior and Lord.

(Luke 2:11 KJV)  “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”

These days, people all over the earth celebrate Christmas because they want to give presents to their families, friends, and loved ones.  It is always great to be able to give to others, but especially when we give Him, the Gift God has given to us.  In this very special season, the people living now still need Jesus Christ just as much as did those who lived before His birth.  In the days preceding Christ’s first appearance, the world was void of a Savior.  Now, though He has been with us for over 2000 years, there are still multitudes that do not know Him as their Savior.  This could seem to be an untouchable dilemma for the many of us Christians who think the mission fields are located primarily in other countries, but the truth be known, each of us probably knows someone who does not yet know Jesus personally.  Our giving to the Lord will be best realized by our giving of Him to others.

(John 7:38 KJV)  “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

Every Christian has the potential of being a literal fountain for Christ to pour His living waters through.  The wisdom being sought by those who seek Christ today is realizing how to reach that potential.  The apostle Paul said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, for it is the power of God unto Salvation…”  For living water to flow, we must be giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to others unashamedly.  If that is not happening, we must take a close look at what is keeping the fountains from bursting forth, because the great commission is not being fulfilled.

(Luke 6:45 KJV)  “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

According to the gospel by Luke, the condition of the heart determines the flow, and the mouth is the fountain.  In chapter 12:34, Luke also states, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”  For many “Christians,” those words could be a rude but definitely needed awakening to the fact that the gospel must be flowing from our lips or Jesus is not the abundance of the treasure in our hearts.  May we not become as so many that have passed on before us, those who forfeited their inheritance for the sake of temporary pleasures and earthly treasures in this present age.  Let us rather fulfill the true meaning of Christmas by giving the un-surrendered parts of our hearts to the Lord, and by allowing Him to be the True Treasure that we share with others.
