Up The Mountain

Psa 24:3-6 (KJV)  “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?  (4)  He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.  (5)  He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.  (6)  This [is] the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.”

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?  Those who answer wisely when the Lord says, “Come unto me, all who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”  There is much to be considered before taking on the task of climbing a mountain, whether  natural or spiritual.  In both cases one must consider what will be needed and what should be left behind while endeavoring to scale such an incline.  Naturally one would want to pack as light as possible, but spiritually one must exchange the weight of sin for the weight of a cross.  Beware of the pride that tempts one to try to ascend the mountain without a cross.  Even without the physical climbing of a mountain there will always be temptations and trials that the enemy purposes to be roadblocks set to prevent the success of a person’s upward quest.  Therefore ones old life must be laid down that the true life may be found.

John 6:15 (KJV)  “When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.”

Just as Jesus was truly the King of Kings, Christians are truly kings and priests.  And just as Jesus would not let the world dictate how He would be exalted, neither can Christians allow worldly standards or worldly desires to enter the confines of their spiritual ascent.  Jesus made no secret of what He had to do to stay in the will of the Father, as He made many a journey up the mountain to pray.   Jesus knew that it was only in the will of the Father that His life purpose could be fulfilled, and therefore He did what ever it took to get away and find His Father’s will.  If Christians are to receive from the Lord they must do the same, by ascending the hill of the Lord and leaving the spare baggage behind.

Hag 1:5-8 (KJV)  “Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.  (6)  Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages [to put it] into a bag with holes.  (7)  Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.  (8)  Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.”

Just as with Jesus’ final decent up the hill, the Christian must carry a cross and ascend into the presence of the Lord.  Without doing so the will of the Lord will not be revealed and He will not be glorified.
