Said and Saying Every Christian believer should believe in the inherency of the Holy Bible, which is in the fact that every word therein is “God –breathed.” Therefore, it is essential that we apply those God written words to our lives; but the method in which we apply them is of vital importance. There is an old story used by evangelical preachers that reads: “A man cried out to God saying, ‘please give me a word.’ And then the man closed his eyes and parted the pages of the Bible; as he opened his eyes the first words he read were: “And Judas hung himself.” The question was: Did God want the man to hang himself? Absolutely not! That analogy has been used often in reference to not taking the scriptures out of context. The correct method of applying the scriptures to our lives is that we allow the Holy Spirit of God to write the words of God upon our hearts. Luke 18:18-27 (KJV) “And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? (19) And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none [is] good, save one, [that is], God. (20) Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. (21) And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. (22) Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. (23) And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. (24) And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! (25) For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. (26) And they that heard [it] said, Who then can be saved? (27) And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” There is more than the obvious to be seen in these scriptures, as is true with all scriptures. The word of God is literal, but it is at the same time used to show us the very nature of its author. We are to come to know and to live with the Lord because of His words; and that goal is much greater than adjusting our behavior, and changing our mindsets. As seen in the above text, the rich young ruler had obeyed the commandments as long as he had been alive; but as soon as he was instructed by the living word, he turned away and did not obey. Obedience to the written word is learned, but obedience to the Spirit’s direction is lived. God will not contradict His written word, but He will demand that He be Lord of its application to our lives. God knows that to be led by His Spirit is the only way for a man to accomplish the things that are impossible for men. John 16:12-13 (KJV) “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. (13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” As Christian believers, our maturity and ability to increase His Kingdom in the earth will only come to fruition as we apply what God has said by listening to that which He is saying.
