Are You Committed? part 1
of 3
1 Pet. 4:12 through 1 Pet. 4:19 (KJV) “Beloved, think it
not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some
strange thing happened unto you: 13But rejoice, inasmuch
as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be
revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14If ye
be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and
of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he
is glorified. 15But let none of you suffer as a murderer,
or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.
16Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be
ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. 17For the
time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin
at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the
ungodly and the sinner appear? 19Wherefore let them that
suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in
well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”
The Holy Spirit is spoken of as evil and is blasphemed by the contempt and
reproaches cast upon believers. One would think that warnings for Christians
against becoming murderers, thieves, evildoers, or busybodies in other men’s
matters are needless. And while many of us are falsely charged with foul crimes,
the worst thing to do is give the world an excuse to truthfully charge you. Even
the best of men need to be warned against the worst of sins.
From Jeremiah through Hosea, the word commit is followed by whoredom, adultery,
iniquity. This was written before the time of Christ’s return. In Revelation,
the word commit is followed by adultery and fornication.
Does it seem to be that the world is in a cycle? The Jews blew it! Now we are on
the verge of the Second Coming of Christ. Are the Christians going to blow it?
Will He pass us by too?
Matt. 7:21 through Matt. 7:23 (KJV) “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord,
Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my
Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that
day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast
out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And
then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity.”
Our souls are committing fornication, adultery, iniquity. We need to be
committed to God.
It is true that the righteous are scarcely saved, even those who endeavor to
walk uprightly in the ways of God. There are the great difficulties and hard
encounters, many temptations and tribulations, many fightings without and fears
within.
