Victorious Joy 1Co 15:55-58( KJV) “(55) O death, where [is] thy sting? O grave, where [is] thy victory? (56) The sting of death [is] sin; and the strength of sin [is] the law. (57) But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (58) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” The following quote by Matthew Henry supplies a great view of understanding on this subject: “We have an exhortation that believers should be steadfast, firm in the faith of that gospel which the apostle preached, and they received. Also, to be unmovable in their hope and expectation of this great privilege, of being raised incorruptible and immortal. And to abound in the work of the Lord, always doing the Lord's service, and obeying the Lord's commands. May Christ give us faith, and increase our faith, that we may not only be safe, but joyful and triumphant.” Exhortation can be the catalyst that sets things in motion in our lives. Not all people are naturally motivated, but even if they are, they need to die to the self part of that motivation so that the real power can flow by the Spirit of God. Not all people have a good memory; but even if they do, they still need to rely upon the Spirit of God to bring the word and the understanding of God to their memory. That is the only way there can be joy in the victory. Anyone who has ever been impressed by God to do something that brought victory knows this to be true. There is an increase in one’s faith as well as a joy in the Lord that is beyond words. 1Ch 29:11-13 (KJV) “(11) Thine, O LORD, [is] the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all [that is] in the heaven and in the earth [is thine]; thine [is] the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. (12) Both riches and honour [come] of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand [is] power and might; and in thine hand [it is] to make great, and to give strength unto all. (13) Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.” When in awe of God, it is not uncommon to become speechless; but most of the time there arises such a feeling of thanks and adoration that just has to find expression. It may be in the form of shouting, laughing, or maybe even in the form of a new song that gives God glory and blesses others at the same time. Psa 40:3 (KJV) “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, [even] praise unto our God: many shall see [it], and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” No effort to be victorious will be in vain. We have been exhorted to overcome through the power of Jesus Christ, and with every victory there are blessings: first to Jesus, then to Others, and to Yourself.
